Mustangs Plus Attended The 2015 Mustang Unveiling In Hollywood California

The newest generation of the Ford Mustang was unveiled at Hollywood, Detroit and New York on the morning of December 5th, 2013. Mustangs Plus was proud to be invited by Ford Motor Company to attend the Hollywood unveiling. The Hollywood unveiling was being held at one of Hollywood’s most famous nightspots, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Built in 1927, this is the place that everyone expects to see the most exciting premiers and presentations in the world. To think that the 2015 Mustang would be unveiled there was way cool! However, as is the custom today, many of the older established landmarks are renamed to a more current and relevant name. Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is no different. After entering into a10 year naming agreement last January 11th, it will go by name of the TLC Chinese Theatre until at least 2023. It will also be able to brag about the 2015 Mustang being unveiled there on December 5th, 2013!

To add to the sensation, Ford asked Craig Cunningham, the President of the Mustang Owners Club of California (MOCC), to organize several Mustang owners to bring their Mustangs of all years to the reveal and line both sides of the street in front of the theatre. Included in the Mustangs Craig recruited was Joyce and Bob Fria’s 1964 1\2 #002 Mustang which was, without a doubt, the oldest Mustang there. Mustang #002 is a pre-production Mustang and one of, if not the, oldest Mustangs on the planet. Also on display was a 1968 Bullitt Mustang replica, a 1970 MACH I Mustang, a 1989 GT Convertible Mustang, a 2012 Boss 302 Mustang and many other Mustangs of many years, colors and models. What a sight they made, lining Hollywood   Blvd on both sides for everyone to enjoy. But make no mistake. The 2015 was the star of the hour!

After a continental style breakfast, which was hosted by Ford, several Ford Executives spent just the right amount of time telling everyone about many of the 2015 Mustang’s new features. This is what actually makes the 2015 the 6th Generation Mustang. Of course these new features include the new body styling, which you are very aware of upon seeing it. But more important then that, the 2015 Mustang is a new Mustang, not just an up-dated version of the 2014. There are new front and rear suspension packages, many interior changes, a new Ecoboost engine package, many new safety features such as rain sensing windshield wipers, and much, much more. The 2015 has all of this while still preserving that special something that makes a Mustang a Mustang. Without that special something, it’s just another car.

After the presentation, we were taken out to the street in front of the TLC Chinese Theatre where all of the celebrity’s hands and footprints are displayed in cement. This is also where the “Walk of Stars” is located in the sidewalks. There was a lot of history to take in. Since this area is on an incline into the theatre, the 2015 Mustang was sitting on a special stage that was built so that the Mustang would sit level. At the front of the stage, a cement pad was sitting in front of the covered car. As we all found seats, we were told that after the unveiling, the 2015 Mustang was going to have its tire prints put into concrete just like celebrities have done for many years. A very nice touch for the car that was the star!

Finally, it was time for the moment we had all been waiting for! To ewes and awes from the crowd, the cover was pulled off of the 2015 Mustang. There it sat, on it’s specially built stage, wearing it’s beautiful Red paint for all to see. Camera flashes popped all around just like it was a big Saturday Night Movie Premier. Just about the same time as the reveal, the sun came out and the 2015 gleamed in the sunlight. From the first reaction of the crowd, you knew that Ford had a hit on their hands! I’m sure history will bare me out on that.

Then came one of the coolest parts of the reveal; the 2015 getting it’s front tire prints in concrete. Now, you don’t really think about this, but really stop and think about what they were doing. What if the front tires drove onto the cement pad and promptly sank into the concrete? Talk about a mess! To insure that this wouldn’t happen, I understand that this was tested the day before a couple of times with another car of the same weight until they got the mixture just right. Some real thought and planning had to be put into this. They didn’t just do it on the fly. But, you never know what is going to happen until after it happens.

After being assured that the concrete was hard enough to hold the 2015 Mustang but soft enough leave the tire impressions, the front tires of the 2015 were eased onto the concrete and across to the other side. Everyone held their breath, waiting for what was going to happen. To everyone’s joy, the Mustang came through the concrete to the other side and to a halt without sinking! Then, the concrete was cleaned off of the 2015’s front tires and it was rolled backwards, going over the same spots. With a sigh of relief from everyone, especially everyone with Ford, the 2015 stopped in it’s original position. It hadn’t sunk in the concrete and it had left behind beautiful tire tracks for posterity! To add to the allure, a large molded Mustang logo was dropped onto the concrete by a couple of the Ford Executives so that there would be a lasting impression of the Mustang’s tire tracks and the Mustang logo in the concrete. The excess concrete around the tire and Mustang impressions was cleaned up and the date was added.  I can’t wait to go back in a couple of months and see where they put it!

For the next hour, we took pictures of the new Mustang and the Mustang celebrities in attendance. There were many celebrities there including Edsel Ford III, John and Courtney Force, Parnelli Jones, Rick Titus and many more. Lots and lots of Ford Blue Blood was flowing and it was a perfect 2015 Mustang Reveal! To top it off, we went back inside and Ford provided lunch for everyone. We are a little lunch, thanked the Ford Executives for inviting us, said our goodbyes to our friends, that is the ones we could find, and then headed for home as we had about a 6 hour drive to get there. It had been a great day; a short day in time, but a day that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Now, the waiting is just beginning. No one knows exactly when you will be able to walk into your Ford dealer and order a new 2015 Mustang! If there is a planned date, I don’t know what it is. But I do know that I would love to have one! I also know that pictures of the new 2015 Mustang starting flooding the automobile news market and the Internet one minute after the 2015 was revealed! We can thank social media for that! Because of this, you’ve probably already seen many photos of the car. I hope you will look at the photos I’ve included here and get a feel for what the Hollywood unveiling was like. Lots of energy, lots of smiling faces, and a lot of pictures! Some are not even about Mustangs.

The 2015 Mustang looks very impressive. Great body style. My wife hates her Honda Civic. I am going to talk her into buying one of these. I am currently restoring my 65 Mustang Convertible, hope to have ready for 50 anniversary. Cheers,Leroy.

Which I was there! Wife has a 2013 mustang and me a 1966 Mustang (done as a Shelby Trans Am Coupe). Like the 2015 Mustang better from 1st drawings I saw. Still touches of retro and new together.
